When joining someone's screen, Drovio prompts you with the error "the connection has timed out". In this article, you will find useful information about this issue.

Why do I get this error and how to fix it?

This error can be caused by a wide variety of factors, all generally related to your network. It can just be a temporary network interruption or a more specific issue concerning your network configuration.

📶 You are facing a temporary network interruption

It is possible that your Internet connection has been interrupted while Drovio was negotiating the connection between your teammate and you. Please ensure that you are still connected to Internet and tell your teammate to invite you once again.

🔑 You are using Drovio behind a proxy

In this case, you have to configure some proxy settings in Drovio:
Click on the settings button located at the top-right corner of the app
Select Preferences
Click on the Network tab
Enable proxy configuration by checking the Enable checkbox
Fill the Hostname field
If your proxy requires authentication, fill the Username and Password fields
Restart Drovio

⛔️ A firewall does block some required ports or you have NAT issues

As a first step, you can try to temporary turn off your operating system's firewall and see if it does solve the problem. Then turn it on again and add rules to it, as explained below.

When a peer connection is established between one of your teammate and you, audio, video and data streams are transported over UDP ports. If a firewall is active and some ports are blocked, Drovio can be unable to establish connections.

About 10% of connections may fail due to restrictive firewall or NAT configurations. We use relay servers, acting like gateways, to handle that. Your sessions are secured and your privacy is respected, we cannot decrypt anything from these servers, even if we wanted to. They just forward the data. These relay servers require the UDP port 443 to be opened.

For the best possible experience with Drovio, we recommend opening UDP ports from 1025 to 65535.
